A system of argumentation for reasoning about trust

چکیده
Trust is a mechanism for managing the uncertainty about autonomous entities and the information they store, and so can play an important role in any decentralized system. As a result, trust has been widely studied in multiagent systems and related fields such as the semantic web. Here we introduce a formal system of argumentation that can be used to reason about trust. We explore some of the simple properties of the system and we illustrate its application on a benchmark problem from the trust literature.

Reasoning about Trust Using Argumentation: A Position Paper
Trust is a mechanism for managing the uncertainty about autonomous entities and the information they store, and so can play an important role in any decentralized system. As a result, trust has been widely studied in multiagent systems and related fields such as the semantic web. Managing information about trust involves inference with uncertain information, decision making, and dealing with co...
متن کاملA prototype system for argumentation-based reasoning about trust
This paper describes a prototype system for reasoning about trust. The system takes as input a set of statements in logic, each attributed to an agent, and a social network that indicates what trust relations hold between the agents. Given a query in the form of a proposition, and an agent that is interested in that query, the system returns a graph containing all arguments that have the propos...

Trust is an approach to managing the uncertainty about autonomous entities and the information they store, and so can play an important role in any decentralized system. Here we introduce a simple approach to reasoning about trust with logic, describe how it can be combined with reasoni...
متن کاملArgument Schemes for Reasoning about Trust
Trust is a natural mechanism by which an autonomous party can deal with the inherent uncertainty regarding the behaviors of other parties and the uncertainty in the information it shares with those parties. Trust is thus crucial in any decentralized system. We build on recent efforts to use argumentation to reason about trust. Specifically, we provide a set of schemes, abstract patterns of reas...
متن کاملAModel for Augmenting Trust Management using Argumentation
Previous work has used theories of evidence to incorporate belief into trust and reputation systems. Some important questions that remain, however, are how agents might recover reputation lost in disputed transactions, and how new agents with little or no past transaction history might enter the trust network. We attempt to address these issues by extending previous work using the Dempster-Shaf...
